Summary of Project
I remember in 2013 seeing this project for the first time at Rycotewood and having no belief in myself that’d I’d be able to make it to a high standard, let alone finish it in the first place.
But as with anything in woodworking, it’s a series of tiny steps that create components, which then create joints, which then create projects. Yes, some of the processes are quite challenging and you may not get them perfect on the first try. But with sharp tools and attention to detail, I guarantee you will make something you’re proud of. Not to mention pick up a bunch of new, invaluable skills while you’re at it!
Below is a comparison between my original cabinet and the new one. Take note of the dodgy handle design!
While there may not seem like there are many differences at first sight, it’s the finishing touches that make all the difference with the new one. In particular the gap surrounding the door is now even, the handles are more refined, the glue lines are invisible on the new cabinet, and the door design is slightly more tasteful in my opinion.
Personally, I think the choice of material was more consistent on the original. But I still quite like the wider grain patterns on the new door frame.
